Jacob Ritter is a playable survivor in State of Decay and unlockable hero in Breakdown. He is a student at Danforth College and the son of Thomas Ritter and older brother of Lily Ritter.

He is away from the Church of the Ascension when the game begins and later calls Lily requesting for help on the radio. This call will generate the mission "Lily's Brother". Jacob is injured due to having twisted his ankle and is found at a barn with Eli Wilkerson, with whom he has a relationship. The two are under attack by a horde of zombies and need to be rescued. Once the zombies are cleared from the barn, the two reveal that they are a couple.

In the mission "Home Away From Home", Jacob explains that he has a strained relationship with his family and that his mother died when he was 13 and Lily was 9. Shortly after his mother's death, Lily was diagnosed with Lupus and Jacob had to pick up a lot of the slack. He did not handle the situation well and left home as soon as he turned 18 to attend Danforth College. He and his father had a huge fight over leaving to attend college and the two did not speak for years. Jacob says Lily feels abandoned by him since he never came back home.

It is Jacob's first visit home since the fight when the events of the game occur. He later expresses that he always wanted to live at the Savini Residence when he was a kid (home of his best friend Sally).

State of Decay: Breakdown

He is known as "The Tragedy" and can be unlocked in the first level by the death of a survivor.

  • Jacob is responsible for writing some of the entries in the in-universe survivor journal "Day by Day".
